Kul-Tha Beliefs

Page history last edited by lucyk 3 yrs ago

Kul-Tha religious beliefs are fairly central to tribal life, and even the Salemites among the Ghosts have been largely influenced by the worldview of the People of the Balance. Asking a few tactful questions will elicit much of this information - depending on who you ask!

Kul-Tha worship the Mother, the being they believe created Frontier. (The jury is still out on whether She created the rest of the Shards too, and whether She is identical to the Lady of Frontier, and indeed, whether said Lady even exists. Ask four Kul-Tha, get five answers. One of them very loudly, if you include Talihina.)

The Mother is identified closely with the moon, which is regarded as her 'eye' through which she watches over creation. She is said to have created the Shard in her dreams, so sleep and dreaming are very important to the Kul-Tha.

The Kul-Tha creation myth specifies the order in which things were created. In the beginning, there was the Mother (whose symbolic colour is blue). She created Frontier, the land, and its plants, trees, mountains, lakes and rivers (Frontier's colour is green). To people it, she created the Spirits, the concepts of animals which exist in the Mother's dreams ('the dreams of the Mother' is a characteristic Kul-Tha phrase which can refer to the spirit plane, the afterlife, and a number of other realms often differentiated in other belief-systems. This issue is hotly debated.). The Spirits (whose symbolic colour is red) created the physical animals, so the non-human creatures of the Shard are not children of the Mother, but of the Spirits. The Mother then created the People of the Balance (whose colour is yellow or gold), to watch over her creation, to form relationships with her elder children (the land and the Spirits) and to guard the harmony of all things. It is not recorded how the other peoples of Frontier came into being.
