The current Field Commander of the Union Expeditionary Force, Major Lashenkov spent his first years in his native Eastern Slaem, moving to Union when the opening of portal travel coincided with his father retireing his captaincy in the Salem Army. Carter bloomed outside of the oppresive church-state, quickly soaking up associations and knowledge freely available that would have had him burnt at the stake in his homeland.

Having learnt the use of magic (for which his family disowned him) from a variaty of tomes and tutors, Carter is set in discovering ancient Alfar and Draken ruins and bringing forth the lost knowledge contained within them, His mystical knowledge, and the method he took to obtain it, brought him to the attention of the UEF and his rapid acclimatisation to command and modern weapons has allowed his superiors to retire and study the sites and objects brought back by field missions.
