Mind

All characters now have a mind stat, this has a maximum value and a current value, both of these start at five points. These represent both your mental health, and your overall resistance to the ever-lurking Horrors.

Mind points will be gradually lost if you either encounter the Horrors directly, or come across some of their insidious workings. Overcoming the Horrors and their plans or gaining specific Edges may gain you additional Mind points.

Any time your current Mind drops to zero you gain a permanent insanity and become very vulnerable to the influence of the Horrors. If it ever drops below zero you have become lost to the Horrors and become an NPC. Your current score can never go above your maximum.

This is the same as sanity points for those of us who already have them, if you have less than five your maximum is five but your current points are whatever you are currently at.

Improved Mind

This edge increases your maximum mind stat by one point per level. As a side effect it increases your current mind stat by one every time you buy a level.

Level 1 - maximum mind 6 - 15 Karma - no prerequisite

Level 2 - maximum mind 7 - 30 Karma - level 1

Level 3 - maximum mind 8 - 45 Karma - level 2

Level 4 - maximum mind 9 - 60 Karma - level 3

Level 5 - maximum mind 10 - 75 Karma - level 4

Psychology – Area of Expertise

Grade 0 (Novice) Minimal Knowledge.

Grade I (Layman) Understand basics of chosen subject

Grade II (Competent) As above plus knowledge of complex issues in chosen subject. Also allows the ‘psychologist’ to give therapy to other players and cure their mind. Although, for each mind point they heal, they lose two mind points. Only one mind point can be returned per player per day.

Grade III (Expert) As above plus able to conduct research in chosen subject. Also allows the ‘psychologist’ to give therapy to other players and cure their mind. Although, for each mind point they heal, they lose one mind point. Only one mind point can be returned per player per day.

Grade IV (Supernatural) As above but can use faith to create various but related options. Also allows the ‘psychologist’ to give therapy to other players and cure their mind. At this grade no mind points are lost. Only one mind point can be returned per player per day. .

Note: psychologists cannot cure themselves and need another psychologist of at least their level to treat them.

The True Horror

The truth is out there, but those who seek it risk their very mind. This knowledge-based skill determines how much a character knows about the Horrors, their strengths and their weaknesses.

If your Mind score goes above the level needed to buy the skill you lose the knowledge gained as your mind refuses to comprehend it until such time as your Mind score drops back to the appropriate level.

The True Horror 1 - 15 - Mind score of 5 or less

The True Horror 2 - 15 - The True Horror 1 and Mind score of 4 or less

The True Horror 3 - 15 - The True Horror 2 and Mind score of 3 or less

The True Horror 4 - 15 - The True Horror 3 and Mind score of 3 or less

The True Horror 5 - 30 - The True Horror 4 and Mind score of 2 or less

The True Horror 6 - 30 - The True Horror 5 and Mind score of 2 or less

The True Horror 7 - 30 - The True Horror 6 and Mind score of 2 or less

The True Horror 8 - 60 - The True Horror 7 and Mind score of 1 or less

The True Horror 9 - 60 - The True Horror 8 and Mind score of 1 or less

The True Horror 10 - 120 - The True Horror 9 and Mind score of 0

True Faith

True Faith is a characters totally unshakable belief in a Deity, patron, or even themselves.

If True Faith is directed at certain supernatural creatures it repels them, harms them or even destroys them. Some supernatural creatures can sense those that have true faith and will automatically be in fear of them. True Faith maybe temporarily invested in items at one grade lower than the character has it such as blessing water. It is for you to find out which creatures can be affected by True Faith…Any one playing a character who feels this may affect them please check with the rule team.
