Miss Chase grew up on Whitewater, always something of a disappointment to her father for her lack of interest in the study of Navigation. His growing concern that his own exploits would one day leave her without a father meant repeated attempts to marry her off to anyone who might be prepared to look after her. This fatherly concern eventually drove Louisa to flee her home for Frontier, where she met up with all manner of interesting folk before Ulysses tracked her down. Eliciting her promise that she would not run from marriage again, he in turn agreed to her study at the Guild of Horology, under the apprenticeship of Mr. Flay.

More recently, she has caved to her father's continued insistence on looking for a husband, and has agreed to courtship from one Captain Burton, though mainly to shut her father up!
