Wounds and Healing
Wounds
Any body location that takes damage becomes wounded. Once a location falls to zero body points or below it is critically wounded and unable to function. If your torso takes a critical wound then you fall unconscious. If a critical wound is not treated within three minutes death may occur and a bead draw will be required.
Bead draws
If a critical wound is not treated within three minutes, or if you take an exceptionally serious wound or series of wounds however soon it is treated, a bead draw will be necessary. A referee will offer you a bag containing beads of six different colours, and you draw one out. The beads range from clear (minor wound) through white, red, green, blue and black (death).
The referee will then take account of the bead you drew, as well as a range of other factors, such as how well you role-played the wound, its severity, your combat skill and toughness, previous bead draws, and the skill and role-playing of the people treating you. This will decide how badly you are actually hurt and what is needed to treat the wound.
A skilled doctor or a patient with Combative can modify the bead draw on a wound by one for every five Karma they spend. This must be announced before the bead is drawn.
We don't want you to lie on the ground for a long time with nothing happening around you. To prevent this, if you think you have been forgotten you should do one of two things: either go to the monster hut and get a bead draw, or role-play being semi-conscious, drag yourself to the nearest medic, and collapse again so that they can treat you and get a bead draw.
Healing
A wound can be stabilised by any form of healing.
A critical wound needs to be stabilised within 3 minutes to negate the need for a bead draw. The location will then be on zero body points. A ref may overrule this when the wounds are particularly serious.
If a location is on zero body points but stabilised it can be used but any further wounds will mean that it needs treating again.
You can re-open a stabilised critical wound if you engage in strenuous activity before the location has a chance to heal at least one body point. This means it reverts to being a critical wound and will need treating again.
A stabilised wound will heal as follows.
First aid (Medical 1, Survival 1
Wounds treated by a person with First aid will then recover the body points lost after a nights rest.
Doctors (Medical 2 or above)
Each location that is treated by a doctor will recover a body point for each hour of rest.
Potions
The effects of potions range from one point back after an hour to a total heal of all wounds after 5 seconds depending on the strength of the potion.
Magic
Magic will normally heal wounds within 1 to 5 minutes. The levels of healing range from one point to a total heal of all wounds.
